We’re bringing local groups, schools and charities together to build their very own scarecrow in the Square, raise awareness of their cause and raise funds for local causes and charities. 

We’ll provide the materials, sourced wherever possible from local charities, organisations and community causes, and our entries just need to bring their creativity and a small design team! 

The finished scarecrows will become part of our Scare in the Square display, with a plaque telling visitors about each organisation and a QR code allowing the public to vote for their favourite.

The winning group, as voted for by the public, will receive £100 towards their cause, charity or group fundraising!

It’s a fun way to showcase your creativity and be part of a new Autumn community event in the heart of Dorchester.

There are two making sessions at Brewery Square in October, these are:

Monday 19 October 2026 4pm – 6pm
Monday 26th October, 10am – 12 noon

And you can choose which ever session that works best for your group. 

The Scarecrows will be on display in the square throughout Halloween / Half Term, where we’ll also have lots of free family activities for everyone to enjoy! After this, you can keep your own creation if you would like to or we will recycle the materials used.
